Wiring does not fail on a schedule, but it does age. When a house is still running on the circuits it was built with, the question is not whether it works today, it is what it was never designed to carry.
Signs the wiring, not just a device, is the problem
Two-prong outlets with no ground, lights that flicker when something else turns on, outlets or switch plates that feel warm, breakers that trip on ordinary loads, and a house full of extension cords because there are not enough outlets. One of those is a repair. Several of them together usually point at the wiring itself.
Age matters too. Many homes built between the mid-1960s and the mid-1970s used aluminum branch wiring, and older homes can still have cloth-insulated cable. Neither is automatically dangerous, but both need an electrician to look at the connections, because the connections are where problems start.
Rewiring does not have to mean the whole house at once. We start with an inspection, tell you which circuits need work and which are sound, and give you a written scope. Partial rewiring of the kitchen, the bathrooms or the circuits feeding big appliances is often the sensible first step.

Home Rewiring: common questions
How do I know if my house has aluminum wiring?
Look at the cable jacket in the attic or at the panel: aluminum cable is often marked AL or ALUMINUM, and the wire itself is dull silver rather than copper colored. If you are not sure, we can check it during an inspection.
Do you have to open every wall?
No. Most rewiring is run through the attic and existing wall cavities with small access holes. We tell you where openings are needed before we start, not after.
Can I live in the house during a rewire?
Usually yes. We work circuit by circuit, so most of the house has power at any given time, and we plan the day around the rooms you need.
Is rewiring permitted work?
Yes. It is permitted and inspected in this area. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.
